With offices on five continents and more than ten years of experience in the market, we are one of the few intermediaries to cover the entire carbon credit value chain. First Climate opened offices here in the U.S. in 2008 in both San Francisco and Washington D.C. Our presence on both coasts enables us to closely follow and engage in both regional and federal climate policy developments, a critical component of our consulting services.

First Climate’s core business lines cover Carbon Asset Development, Project Finance, Sales & Trading, Carbon Investment Management and Climate Neutral Services.

Through a global network of offices, subsidiaries and partners, the Carbon Asset Development department procures high-quality carbon credits from Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) projects as well as from projects geared to the voluntary market. We have a particularly strong presence in India, Pakistan, China and Latin America as well as the U.S.

First Climate is active both in project development and as a buyer or broker of emission reduction credits (CERs, ERUs and VERs) on behalf of investors, corporate clients and for our own portfolio. We have also developed several pioneering project methodologies to allow new and innovative project types to qualify for the carbon market.

Our Sales & Trading department executes our compliance market trades and offers customized trading products to companies subject to the EU ETS and other mandatory emission trading schemes. We also provide advisory services on carbon trading strategies, taking into account upcoming policy and legislative changes.

In the voluntary market, First Climate supports companies in developing robust and effective carbon management strategies. The Climate Neutral department calculates corporate carbon footprints and works directly with clients to reduce avoidable emissions. To offset unavoidable emissions, we create individualized carbon offset portfolios for our clients that directly reflect their unique environmental goals and priorities. All of our carbon offsets are verified according to the highest quality internationally recognized standards such as the Climate Action Registry and the Voluntary Carbon Standard. We invest in projects that benefit the local economy and support sustainable development and innovation, going above and beyond climate protection. This objective, third-party quality assurance creates the transparency that safeguards First Climate’s credibility as well as the integrity of our clients’ environmental commitments.
