Aggregate Industries (AI) implements Entropy Software for ISO 14001 Certification

Aggregate Industries (AI) initially implemented Entropy Software for ISO 14001 certification and they now access data across their UK and US operations.  Entropy Software provides auditing, reporting, compliance, incidents and trends data, giving AI valuable business information at their fingertips.

AI UK began the process of achieving ISO 14001 in 1998, with the aim to have all 150 sites certified by 2001.  To achieve this they convened an environmental working group responsible for analyzing the issues and the data that they would require. It was immediately obvious that the conclusions that AI had reached on how to manage the ISO certification process matched with how Entropy Software had been designed.

Using Entropy Software, AI met their goal of all sites being certified by October 2001 several months earlier than expected.  An ISO implementation plan then took place across the US operations, and Entropy Software is central to them achieving their goal of having all US sites certified too.  After integrating the Entropy Software to manage health and safety alongside environmental data, the Quality and Monitoring modules were also implemented in 2001 in UK followed by US deployment in 2003-4.  Today, AI have the complete Entropy Software across all operations.

The focus of using Entropy Software is not on data inputting, but on the benefits that the System brings in terms of efficiency, productivity, and identification of non-compliant deviations that need to take actions immediately.  Entropy Software has proved to be an effective tool that turns company information into relevant knowledge, allowing AI to make informed and timely business decisions.

Since 1999, AI have accumulated a vast amount of data within Entropy Software, enabling comprehensive site reviews, trends reports, incidents, audit details and nonconformance issues to be prepared in just two hours by an authorized person.

The crucial element of Entropy Software for AI is the power it provides through capturing data from many people to give one complete and overall picture.  Monthly CEO reports can now be compiled directly from Entropy Software by an authorized person anywhere an internet connection is available. 

Everyone at AI uses Entropy Software.  Managers who have multi-site responsibility retrieve reports from Entropy Software.  At a minimum, monthly reports generated and issued on non-compliance issues.  By using mobile phone and internet connections, senior managers are able to extract real-time information while out in the field, instead of having to carry multiple reports or other paper information.  Through monitoring regular use of the system, AI demonstrated increased operational efficiency as users became better acquainted with the system. 

AI realized from the outset that Entropy Software go beyond just selling a product, after-sales services and supports with attention to details provided valuable returns on investment to the company.
